Baldwin County / City of Milledgeville Bicycle & Pedestrian Planning

Baldwin County and the City of Milledgeville have an active and vibrant Bicycle-Pedestrian Program in place. Home to Georgia College and State University (GC&SU) and Georgia Military College (GMC), biking and walking are an important transportation mode for both residents and students alike. Additionally, Baldwin County and the City of Milledgeville were identified in the Regional Bicycle-Pedestrian Plan as one of two pilot communities for development of a comprehensive, local Bicycle-Pedestrian Plan.

Current Bicycle-Pedestrian initiatives underway in Baldwin-Milledgeville include the Oconee River Greenway, Safe Routes to School sidewalk infrastructure improvements, the Fishing Creek Community Trail project, a rail-to-trail project connecting the Oconee River Greenway with the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail in Macon, pursuit of Bicycle Friendly Community designation, and possible enactment of Complete Streets policies. Also, the Bicycling Club of Milledgeville (http://mvillebikes.com/) is dedicated to making Milledgeville and Baldwin County a better and safer place for more people to ride bicycles more often.

The Oconee River Greenway Authority, Oconee River Greenway Foundation and Live Healthy Baldwin recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Phase 1 of the Fishing Creek Community Trail. Additionally, the City of Milledgeville is nearing completion of a Complete Streets Blueprint. This important community planning document will serve as the implementation tool for bicycle and pedestrian enhancements throughout the city. Check back in the coming weeks to see the completed plan.
